  /  University Chaplaincies

Fr Benedict Jonak OP is the university chaplain, assisted by Fr John Church OP. The mission of Holy Cross Student Chaplaincy is to provide a spiritual home for students and staff in Leicester, to deepen faith through prayer and teaching, through the celebration of Mass and the other sacraments, and to provide any support that is needed.

Holy Cross Catholic Chaplaincy

The Holy Cross Student Chaplaincy serves the students and staff of the University of Leicester and De Montford University. Holy Cross is also a busy parish church, serving the Leicester city centre.

We are based on New Walk in the centre of town, and events are held here and in our adjacent parish centre, the Frassati Centre. The chaplains and student committee also work closely with the Gatehouse, the University of Leicester’s chaplaincy which serves Christians of all denominations.

Regular Events

During term students meet for an informal meal and social on a Monday evening at 7pm, and for Mass and a talk on a Wednesday evening, also beginning at 7pm. On Tuesday mornings students are invited to join the Dominican community for morning prayer at 7.30am, and then stay for breakfast.

Other events are organised during the year, such as pilgrimages and study days, often in collaboration with Dominican Young Adults.

Join us!

Please get in touch if you are a student in Leicester and would like to join us! You can email the chaplain Fr Benedict: benedict.jonak@english.op.org.

Student Society

Students are encouraged to support the work of the chaplaincy by joining the society and serving on the committee. If you are interested or would like more information please speak to one of the chaplains.

Sacramental Needs

If you’ve not yet been baptised, confirmed or made your first Holy Communion, we are here to prepare you for these sacraments, and to give you every assistance. We are also available if you have questions about the Catholic Faith.

If you are getting married do get in touch with us. Please note that marriage requires at least six months’ notice.
